Problematic coughing

Postby nivvent2007 » Mon May 02, 2016 11:31 am

Hi! I am the mom of a young adult with a rare genetic syndrome that has caused weak respiratory muscles. Our daughter uses an LTV950 ventilator along with a hybrid full face mask. Recently she was hospitalized with viral pneumonia because she could not control coughing spasms that lasted for hours!! Doctors will not give her cough suppressants. She was unable to use her vent, cough assist or nebulizers because of the coughing and her 02 SATS dropped. She has recovered nicely now, but would love information on what you do when a respiratory illness happens that causes such problematic coughing?
