My child is too young to air stack. How can I keep his lungs and chest wall compliant and growing?

Since small children with type 1 and 2 NMD are capable of taking breaths to only a small fraction of what would be a normal inspiratory capacity for age, that is, without deep insufflations they can only expand a small percentage of their lungs, their air sacks (alveoli) collapse and the lungs and chest walls remain small. Passive lung volume recruitment to mobilize the lungs and chest walls is provided by sleep nasal NVS and by at least three times daily deep passive insufflations from MIE or from a manual resuscitator.
