Neck bulging during inspiration on vent

Postby CharlesandLinda » Wed Apr 27, 2016 7:10 pm

I think the NIV with the LTV 900 enlarges my neck so much on inhalation because of the obstruction in my larynx from paralyzed vocal chords that are also displaced from scoliosis. Has anyone else experienced this problem of the neck bulging out on inspiration? (I feel like one of those chameleons when they shoot that red thing out in their neck! HaHa!! ) My vent is set on a Breath Rate of 8, Tidal Volume of 1000, Inspiratory Time of 2, Sensitivity of 3 and High Pressure Limit of 100.

Though cheek bulging is much more commonly reported, some people do get "neck bulging." Do you find the bulging to be uncomfortable or painful?

Yes, Louis Armstrong!!! The cheeks and neck bulging are common with mouthpiece ventilation and can occur with nasal ventilation too. I would be interested to know the positive inspiratory pressures created during your breaths.
