high pressure with vent

Postby mushyscag » Sun Sep 11, 2016 9:44 pm

Dear Dr. Bach
For the past couple of nights while Johnny is sleeping the ventilator will beep and read high pressure. It happens one to three times a night.
Why do you think this is happening?
Thanks as always for your help.

During sleep we all close our glottises (airway) from time to time. When ventilators are "volume preset" (deliver volumes or air that create pressures rather than pressure preset for pressures that create volumes) and the glottis closes, the pressure builds up a the air can go into the stomach. If that happens too much we switch to pressure preset or burp gastrostomy tubes. Usually, however, it is not a problem at all.

So do I need to do anything? or leave it alone.
